Frequently asked questions

If your question is not answered below, or you require additional support, please contact

Authors should be aware of the broad general readership of the journal. Highly technical articles, such as those involving physiological experiments on laboratory animals and at the cellular level, will not be accepted. Please send such articles to a specialised physiology journal instead. Brevity and clear expression are essential.

Please submit all contributions to the journal online via the Manuscript Manager website: All submissions must include an anonymised manuscript. Your manuscript must not include the names of the authors.

Open Access

The NZMJ is free for individuals to subscribe with no payment required. However, institutions are encouraged to pay. Authors are no longer required to pay for Article Processing Charges (APCs) with our new model

There is no longer an embargo period on articles. However, all articles are hidden to non-subscribers so they are required to subscribe to view our articles.

We will not be processing article requests unless the requested article is not availlable online. All individuals are encouraged to subscribe to our free journal.

The value of institutional subscriptions is essential to the NZMJ, as supporting a reputable medical journal demonstrates an institution’s commitment to academic excellence and professional development. By continuing to pay for a subscription, institutions signal their support for valuable medical research and contribute to the New Zealand Medical Journal’s continued success.
